Celebrating 30 Years of Schumacher College
30 Years of Education for People and Planet
In 1991 Satish Kumar launched Schumacher College, an ecological centre that was to offer a different kind of education. It began with a small short course on Gaia Theory led by James Lovelock.
Soon it was attracting leading thinkers and activists from around the world including Vandana Shiva, Jonathan Porritt, Charlene Spretnak, George Monbiot, Helena Norberg Hodge and many more.
Below, you’ll find a programme of events and initiatives to mark 30 years of leading the way in transformative education – spearheaded by our Bursary Campaign, which we hope will raise crucial funds needed to equip the next generation to better address the social, environmental and economic challenges we face.
Celebrating 30 Years of Schumacher College – Our Anniversary Bursary Campaign
To mark this very special milestone, we are asking for your help to make Schumacher’s unique learning experience more affordable and accessible to as many students as possible through our bursary and scholarship programmes. Your contribution can make a huge difference in making our transformational learning programmes accessible to all.
Essay Competition: Education as if People and Planet Matter
As part of our anniversary celebrations, we’ve teamed up with Resurgence & Ecologist Magazine to invite people to throw their own light on the challenges facing our planet, and write an essay for a judging panel featuring some of the finest minds working in the sector today.
Schumacher College: 30th Anniversary Commemorative Book Launch
In May Satish Kumar, our founder and Dr Pavel Cenkl, Head of Schumacher College, launched a 30th anniversary commemorative book – ‘Transformative Learning – Reflections on 30 years of head, heart and hands at Schumacher College’ – and we collectively celebrated the great ideas of the regenerative economy.
